Awa Odori Festival

Held August 12-15 every year in Tokushima, Awa Odori is the largest dance festival in Japan, attracting thousands of tourists each year. It takes place during the Buddhist observance of Obon, when it is believed that the spirits of the dead return to visit their relatives. During Awa Dori, the streets are filled with choreographed dancers and musicians wearing colorful costumes. Men and women perform different dances,, and children can also get involved.
