Fans eager for an early glimpse of Ueno Zoo’s giant panda cub, Xiang Xiang, can enter a lottery for tickets from Dec. 6 ahead of her public debut on Dec. 19.

The Tokyo metropolitan government said Nov. 21 it decided to employ the system in anticipation of high demand and to avoid unmanageable crowds.

Applications will be accepted online or by telephone.

Xiang Xiang, who was born in June, will be on public display from 9:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. until the end of January.
